The emergency caused by the Coronavirus’s effects is forcing most people to stop, especially to avoid the further spread of the contagion.
These moments can become precious for many photographers, as a time to devote to activities that sometimes you have no way of doing calmly or with due attention.
Here are the 5 activities that every photographer could dedicate event space in malaysia themselves to in the coming days:
Arrangement of the archive
It sometimes happens that less attention is paid to archiving, creating temporary folders or placing them in temporary locations, or postponing the important backup phase in a rush to edit and deliver works.
This is the right time to put the archives back in order. Fixing can also mean putting old files back on track, rediscovering old works, perhaps more personal, that we have left to “rest” or have even forgotten. This could now reveal interesting aspects, which at a first reading we had underestimated.
So, hand to the archives, “get out” your works from the drawers, especially from the drawers of memory, which could come out with some nice surprises.
Printing, development, scans
The lucky owners of a personal darkroom can finally shut themselves up for a few hours in that magical atmosphere made of red light, acids, and pans and rediscover the almost thaumaturgical power of printing or development. Or, how many rolls have we happened to develop and leave hidden and almost forgotten? So let’s get busy with proofs and scans; even we could be pleasantly surprised in this case. Even digital natives, who own medium-high level printers, will take advantage of it to print photos for themselves or for family members and why not, finally attach some in the living room!
Editing, competitions & new projects
What better time to finally edit your current or finished projects? Take advantage of remote technologies to share your ideas with trusted photographer friends or editors. There are still several photographic competitions open; you have no more excuses to postpone! Or jot down new ideas, think about future projects, draw up a concept map, start documenting yourself, study, and look for possible contacts. Unleash your creativity, write, annotate, and concentrate. Before any good project, a study and documentation phase is essential; take advantage of it.
Website creation or update
As a result of the archive arrangement and editing, you may find that your website needs updating. Information to review, work to add, or why not, a new layout, or a new template. Or if you don’t have your website yet, now is a good time to do it. WordPress, Wix are just some examples of usable and intuitive cms to start from. This, too, could be a useful activity to put on the list.
And finally, last but not least, dedicate yourself to reading essays, history, but above all, stories. Dust off old and great classics, immerse yourself and get excited with your favorite photographers’ stories, who may already have inspired you or may do so again. Stay tuned!
