Can you tell I miss my son? I'm in the Fort Lauderdale Airport catching a flight home after my Nikon Master Class in Miami yesterday. It was a fun 8 hour class that was like a super condensed version of my Newport Beach workshops. It was nice to have someone else plan everything for a change. Phil Mistry with Popular Photography did an amazing job with every detail . Even with 80 photographers in attendance, there were enough models and assistants to go around.I arrived at Miami International Airport around 1am Saturday morning after a long day of delayed flights due to wind storms going through Dallas. My good buddy Ray Santana was there waiting for me in his shiny black Porsche Cayenne. On our way to Denny's for a late night breakfast, we stopped by to pick up Kevin Keelan at a nearby hotel who also helped out at my master class. Ray and Kevin were such a blessing to have around and made everything flow so smoothly. They assisted during the live shoots and helped coach the students through a variety of different lighting situations. These two also assisted me on my Mar-A-Lago wedding in Palm Beach last week and did an awesome job capturing every detail for me! Look for this wedding published in Wedding Style magazine next year. I'll try to get up some photos this week from the wedding.
After the long day of shooting and lectures, Phil took us to Houston's for the most amazing New York steak I think I've ever had. I planned on hitting up a Calvary Chapel this morning with Paul McAllister, a cool photographer from Ft. Lauderdale, but my last minute change of plans kind of spoiled that idea for me. I was supposed to fly straight to Guyana for a shoot and then fly back to NYC for a Pictage booth presentation at Photoplus but my Guyana shoot postponed so I decided to go home and take Aidan trick-or-treating. Since I have a wedding booked in Santa Barbara on Sunday and everything was so tight, I cancelled my New York trip as well and will be home this week catching up on some production at the office.
Hope you're all doing well and enjoying your weekend! Sorry for not posting more, I'll try to make it up to you this week!
God bless!

Great to hear from you again Mike! I figured you were actually 'working' instead of blogging. Enjoy your week at home with the family!
ah man, bummed that you're not coming out to NY mike!!
Mike,
As one of the "80 Photographers" in attendance this weekend, I would like to thank you for your time and honesty. I know that time away from your family is very hard, and I wanted you to know that I for one really appreciated everything you shared with us. Even with 80 people it felt like we had some one on one time with you, you make an impact on everyone you come in contact with.
If there is every anything you need, feel free to email.

Hey Mike,
Just finished a workshop here in miam with you. Im the guy who you sat beside you @ lunch with glasses.. I just want to think you for letting me talk and pick your brain while you were trying to eat. LOL! I would just like to say alot of the things you said like how you started and alot of the ways you approced things are kinda paralell to what has happend to me. Im a ferm beliver in leading and not following but, when you find somone who is a few steps ahead its refreshing to get a few tips here and there. My question is do you offer any 1 on1 coaching? I just explored you web site a little more and found your videos if look on my site I have the same thing (shooting model on boat) sorta cool anyway I hope this e/m gets to you.
Thanks a mill!

Glad you are getting a family break. After hearing you in Miami, I went home feeling that was definitely something I need to focus on. I read, "Love is the Killer App" the day I got home and am ready to be a Love Cat. Thanks so much Mike. I appreciate your kindness in everything you showed us. You are extremely approachable. Good stuff.
I truly enjoyed you look into your images with us. I especially liked the fact that you asked our opinion of your work! I can actually tell my peers I critiqued Mike Colon’s work right in front of him.
Thanks for setting my D200 for RGB histograms. They are already proving extremely useful! I also must say you've sold me on shooting Manual. My images from the shoot had a consistency I've never seen before!
Thanks again Mike. I appreciated you time. Good luck with all you do in the future.
Mike,
Thanks for the eye opening seminar. I think too many photographers are wasting so many opportunities waiting for the just the right light or just the right moment when it's actually going on all over the place. You taught me to let down my guard a little more and shoot from my heart.
I'm so thankful to have gone because I also met Kevin who just happens to be right here in Orlando. We have e-mailed and will hopefully get together real soon. I will also try and get out there for your next workshop. If this was just a taste, I can only imagine what 4 days will be like! One can never learn too much.
YOU are a true blessing. Thanks again.
