Grace Ormonde Fashion Shoot in Puerto Rico
I'm off in the morning to San Juan, Puerto Rico for a Grace Ormonde fashion shoot. After speaking with Grace and her team about the vision for this shoot, my brain is stirring with ideas and I can't wait to see what happens. I am so blessed to have this opportunity! Be sure to check the Spring/Summer issue of Wedding Style which will be on shelves January 2008!
P.S. I wasn't going to mention this because it is so personal, but I can't hold it in. I just got back from a men's retreat up in Big Bear with my church. God shook me up and revealed things in my life that I need to change. I'm starting with the most important - my relationship with Christ. I'm ashamed to say that He has not been first in my life. Next is more quality time with my wife and boys. It's crazy how easy it is to let materialism and selfishness creep in. I have this freakish need for success and it has really become a false god. I am so thankful that I have such good friends and Godly mentors in my life who look out for me and slap me around when I start to slip.
""For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul?" (Matthew 16:26)
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control." (Galatians 5:22)

Thanks Mike for sharing and encouraging others to keep things inperspective. I know that I can relate and often get a reminder from God to put Him first.
I'm both very happy for you personally to have been to a retreat that brought focus into your life and also that you used your blog as an opportunity to share this great new with others. Have a wonderful trip to PR & I look forward to reading more about your faith walk.
Thank God for his grace, without it we would all fall short. Thanks Mike for sharing your heart. -David, Rom 8:39
Hey Mike, have a great time in Puerto Rico!! Can't wait to see what you come up with.
Thanks for your honesty... it's so easy not to focus on true priorities in life. You're in my prayers man.
love your transparency...it's so refreshing! you inspire me, a sister in Christ, to use the gifts God's given me to honor HIM, all the while staying focused on the important stuff (kingdom stuff). As John Ortberg says..."when the game (of life) is over, it all goes back in the box." truth wins every time!
Mike,
Thankyou for your honesty. We all have things in our life that really come before God. For some of us it is our kids, my coffee even. Yes, I reach for my coffee before I reach for the word of God. Sad but true. There is a new song that really put alot of this in perspective "slow fade" by Casting Crowns. Check it out. The great news is that we can be victorious.

That's so encouraging. Thanks for sharing that Mike. Have a great time shooting for Grace Ormonde. Can't wait to hook up with you again.
What a GREAT reminder for ALL of us Mike... Thanks for sharing and encouraging us in each of our daily lives.
Thank you for being bold enough to speak about your relationship with Christ. Today, it seems, that so many will acknowledge God, but not Jesus. I think people forget that there is only one way to the Father...
Your work and your walk inspire me.
Thanks!
awesome mike!!! i'm sooo happy for you! Have a blast in PR!! miss you all!

Nicely put. Your honesty is awesome. Blessings!...
Mike,
We have never met, but it is refreshing to hear you speak from the heart. Many successful photographers and professionals talk a good talk these days about their faith, but their walk is in question? - I know - I too am going through a wake up call especially after returning from almost 3 weeks in China after adopting my precious daughter who was given up. Jesus is the only answer.
You are a awesome person, Gods loves you and he WILL bless you for putting him first in your life. I miss your boys! Matt is going to be in the 2008 issue too. Can't wait to see your work on the cover. Way 2 go!
Matthew 16:26 is such an awesome verse. Nothin like God to wake us up :-) Enjoy Puerto Rico and hug that family!
Mike
Praise God for his faithfulness to shake us up and refocus our myopic view of Him. I will be praying for you and would covet the same. Hey let me know when you want to go surf again. Have fun!

P.S I know your wife is excited!
Mike, you are always on my prayers. You are an awesome ambassador for Christ in the business. We all stray once in a while and it is great, as you say, to have godly mentors.

I am saying this out of love Mike. Don't forget the one who gave you all you have. Sometime when things are going good we don't pray like we shoud and do the thing that are most inportant to us(Pray
). The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away allways come to my mind when I start to look other way other than God. And I am so glad he talk to me like that.
Godbless.
way to keep your focus.
way to be honest.
way to be an example.
Mike,
You are so real and I love it. Thank you for sharing your successes and your struggles. God uses both to encourage others.
love and prayers
Wow, Mike! So glad that God is doing such a deep work in your heart. All of us need contstant humbleing and refreshing reminders of what is most important in this eternal life that we are living. I am proud of you my friend, and praying that God continues to renew your spirit and convictions.
Hi Mike,
First of all, I used to visit your website and your blog often due to the fact that you were a Christian and also a good photographer (and that dove in your old logo gave me hope to believe that you just might be a Spirit-filled Christian as well). I began photographing weddings right out of high school back in 2002 and continued for three years until the Lord led me down other paths.
After reading this entry in your blog, I felt inspired to leave some feedback (so if you happen to read this, please do not worry about publishing this, because it is meant for you as a brother in the Lord).
I know that the Lord speaks to His people and that those He loves, He chastens or corrects. I write you today because I believe the Lord does love you and wants you to serve Him with all of your heart. Regardless of what you or I believe in reference to the denominations or churches of today, I think we can agree that we are to let God's word be true and trust that His Spirit can lead us into all truth.
I write to you because I know that, as you mentioned in your post, Christ has not been first in your life and the time is now when men have to choose whether they want to build a kingdom here on earth, which will pass away, or lay up your treasures in heaven (it is written in the scripture that where your treasure is, there your heart will be also).
God is calling His people to come out and be separate unto Him. The things that are going to happen in the earth because of people's disobedience to God are great, and terrible, and only those who love Jesus enough to lay down their own lives and desires for his sake, will be found worthy in the days to come.
Mike, I plead with you, go before God, open your ears and heart and let Him show you His ways and teach you His paths. If we do not hold fast to this, we will see that the paths we often take, or that we are taking, lead to death.
May God stir your heart and be with you and your family, may He speak to you as He speaks to me, and may you be clothed in humility that He may have His way in you.
With love in Jesus,
Ryan

The main reason I have followed your blog is because you have been so open about you believe in Jesus. It is exciting to see that you are willing to openly accept the fact that there is nothing more important than your relationship with Jesus Christ and our family. I think you would love the song "Lose My Soul" (form the album "Afterparty" -by tobyMac - featuring Kirk Franklin and Mandissa. It has become a family favorite of mine. You can check it out and download it from itunes. Let us know what you think - TandK@TandKweddings.com - Thanks again for being a blessing!

That's awesome to hear what the Lord is teaching you! Praise Him that He is so faithful to draw us closer to Him with such grace :). I know that's true from experience!
Hi Mike,
I wanted to tell you what an honor it was to be in Puerto Rico with you and Ray Santana. I've never met two more down to earth guys. I'm sure photographer Gretchen del Carmen felt the same way while working with you. Mike, keep Him first and everything you touch will continue to turn to gold. I am a firm believer in family first; and as a Christian who is about to go through a divorce, I am living first hand what happens when you or your spouse take God out of the center of your marriage. Bless you and your lovely family.
