Blue Like Jazz

I'm reading a book that was given to be by a friend called Blue Like Jazz by Donald Miller. Here's a quote from the book that really hit me like a ton of bricks:

We live for what we believe. If I live what I believe, then I don't believe very many noble things. My life testifies that the first thing I believe is that I am the most important person in the world. My life testifies to this because I care more about my food and shelter and happiness than about anybody else.

Sounds like a cool book, but also sounds like the author doesn't have any kids. As you know that changes everything :)

That really is an amazing book Mike! Another one of Donald Miller's that really hit me hard and challenged the way I see God and His relationship with me is "Searching for God know's what"
Definately worth the read!

This is, by far, one of my favorite books. It's such an easy read, yet so thought provoking. I just got the big Donald Miller collection too and I'm loving it. It's just so real.

So much stuff to just knock you over, flat on your face.

Ton of bricks, indeed. And yet I need to be reminded of this on a daily basis...

See you tomorrow,

Wow, that is really powerful.

I am a stalker of your blog (I think you're a fab photog!!) but I'm also really impressed with you as a person - your values, authenticity and desire to give back to your community and the world. It's great to see a famous professional sticking to his faith first. Good for you!

Another great book is "Knowing God" by J.I. Packer. It's an old one, and a little tougher to read, but it will absolutely blow you away! His insight into the character of God and how that relates to our relationship with Him is incredible. He's very big on the importance of Scripture in our understanding of God.

Thanks for sharing!

Hey Mike! Glad to see you are a fellow Christ follower. I attended the Baltimore Master Your Craft session and I took your advice and upgraded the equipment-even though I can't afford it right now. Haha...(o: It was worth it. Best wishes in what you are doing.
