Brazilian Jiu Jitsu World Championship
I had the honor last month of photographing the Jiu Jitsu World Championships for Gracie Barra. This has become a new passion for me (I have bruises to prove it) so it was cool to see the world's top fighters up close and personal. Myself and assistants shot about 6,000 images with our Nikon D3's. Here's one of my favorites. I shot this image at 1/500 sec at f2.8 and 2000 iso. It was a bit too perfect for my taste so used Aperture and Alien Skin Exposure 2 in Photoshop to rough it up a bit :)Who's going with me tomorrow to wait in line for the new iPhone 3G? I'm sure you've heard about this already... but in case you haven't, check out Apple's latest life simplifier!

Amazing shot, talk about getting the moment. Wish I could get an Iphone, I was even thinking of getting one just as a business phone. ;)
Really cool shot Mike, love the Alien Skin work!
I am right there with you amigo. I was in line for 3 and a half hours today and got the last iPhone at the store. I am trying to activate it on line right now but iTunes is way bogged down. Good Luck!!!! - Bob Knapik
Christina looked at this picture and said that it wasn't fair for that guy throw the other guy around with his shirt.
Sweet Shot Mike!! I agree with you, I like the added bit of grit. Sounds like things have been going well. Take Care!

Hey Mike. Nice shot! When are we going to see pics of you doing this?
Dude! We've got to roll sometime! DJ was telling he's been wanting to get into jiu-jitsu - we should all make it happen :)
Seriously though, awesome shot. I got to shoot some portraits for Carlson Gracie Jr. a few months back. Huge privilege. I bet that was such an awesome time.
You're the man, Mike!
Hey David - Christina is right!
Mike - Awesome Shot. You rock!!!
Hey Mike,
Been too long, miss you man. Isn't it fun to go back to your roots and shoot where, or at least near, it all started? Great shot!
Wait, too "perfect" at 2000 iso?!? I'm getting closer to switching every day... that's sick.
Blessings to you and yours,
Terry
Men thats a bunch of shots, 6000? I'm guessing with the D3 you loose track. Great shot Mike.
Nice! But how has your training been coming along? See you on the runways in October.

Ahhh the D3...It is amazing as always. I have been absent for a while, but wanted to share a book I have been reading... since I know you like a good book...fiction, but will rock your world about God and who he is. Read The Shack.

Mike-
I have a bone to pick with you....I am a huge fan...and you need to blog more so we can all be in your business
:P
LOL!
Hey Mike,
I heard you were training at America and I wanted to swing over to say hi. I got bit by the BJJ bug about a year ago :) I am down in San Clemente, I have been training with Regis a bit too. If you are planning to head to this weekend's On The Mat tournament in Long Beach, let me know. I might compete but I will surely be photographing. Either way, maybe we should get the BJJ photographers together for a lunch some time!
