Are you a left-eyed or right-eyed shooter?

I'm curious... which eye do you shoot with?  Left or right?

I always hold the camera up to my right eye, so that makes me a right-eyed shooter.

I use either eye depending on backilighting at sunlight for sports or weddings. Right eye when shooting basball to see fly balls coming at me or any field action sports. I guess it's mostly whatever I feel comfortable at the time.

Thanks

I'm a right eye shooter. Funny I had to pick up my camera to figure it out, never really thought about it.

Left, which is more comfortable to me since I use my left shoulder/arm to stabilize the camera in lower light conditions.

hahaha good question. I'm always thinking about it. I shoot mostly with the left eye and I'm always changing the focus point with my nose :D I have to lock it to avoid the problem. Good work Mike!

Right eyed, although since I went to the colon experience and saw you shoot left eyed, I wished I could look that cool, no squinty left eye to shut out the light and distraction. Being cool is not really my gift so I will just be a left eyed squinty shooter.

Usually a left eye shooter with right eye open (although I do believe I switch sometimes… hmm). I learned to shoot with both eyes open covering high school football games 20 years ago, so I could keep an eye on the wide view while shooting with a long lens.

Both. Right eye always in camera and left eye open for peripheral scanning. When I first stated full time I was shooting a lot of sports, where the off-camera open eye helps a ton to be able to stay on top of the action (at least it did for me). This habit stuck and now I shoot with both eyes for everything I do.

Most of the time the right one and sometimes I use the left one. Using the left one, helps me to hold better the camera in low light situations.

I started out right and it was too hard to keep my left eye closed, so I switched the left and it is so much better. =) Is there any benefit to either? I definitely get nose prints all over my LCD, haha.

I'm mostly a lefty! So weird, since I'm right everything else. But, since left eye is controlled by right brain and right brain is creative, isn't that good? (ok, I made most of that brain thing up). :)

Left. But generally I leave the other open.

There is an established (ie-seasoned+old) photographer in my town whose one eye is always almost closed. Even when not shooting.

I don't want to end up like that. :)

right. i suppose it is because i am right handed and thereby my right eye is the closest. an across the face left handed eye technique would prove to be too challenging and exhausting really. i would have to look over my trigger hand. i don't know how you leftys do it. :)

RIGHT .... from my days as a news photojournalist. It allows me to keep my left eye open, especially at sporting events such as football and wrestling .... it means I don't get run over.

I have a theory about left-eye shooters, though .... the photogs I've talked with who are left eye shooters "learned by watching someone else." ... think about it. If you watch someone shoot, you're watching them shoot with their right eye, but to you, it's your LEFT eye ... so when you shoot, you shoot with your left eye. Make sense?

If you don't mind added this blog topic to my favourite Photo list on my blog.

I shoot with my left eye (right handed)but both eyes open. My high school biology teacher taught me this technique so I could look through a microscope and sketch the specimen without taking my eye off the eye piece. When I started shooting sports in school this technique served me well more than once.
