Mike Colon + Apple = Maui

I'll be at the Maui Cultural Arts Center today for a lecture with Apple. I'm obviously a bit behind in my blog posts but I'll do my best to get caught up on my down time here in Hawaii. For those of you who emailed me to hook up in Maui, hit me up after the show and we'll grab a bite before my flight tonight. For details on this lecture CLICK HERE.

Tunnel Vision

My wife must have heard me say it a thousand times. "Babe, there's light at the end of the tunnel.. I can see it." Yes, I have tunnel vision. I focus on a destination and shut everything out until I get there. The problem is, that light seems to keep itself about the same distance away. I can have the most efficient month of my life and yet there it is, just another 100 yards ahead. It's gets bright sometimes and other times it seems to be dim, but it's always off in the distance. When will I be living in that light? Scary thought! So that's it... I'm done with the tunnel. I choose to live right now in the light. I've arrived at my destination because I've decided that my destination is not success in business, it's success in the family God has given me.

Davy Knapp the Triple Threat - Smart, Talented, and Generous

The Ebay Auction for my private mentoring session ended quietly due to the late closing time on Feb-05-07 at 1:07:43am PST. I woke up the next morning to a pleasant surprise. Davy Knapp bid $600 to beat out 19 bids before the auction closed. Davy is a talented photographer from Amarillo, Texas who attended my 4-Day Intensive last year. He's an awesome guy with a lot of unique ideas who I see going far in this industry. Be sure to check out Davy's website and blog for a dose of inspiration! Congrats Davy! I'm looking forward to spending some time with you in Vegas. $300 will be donated to Thirst Relief International on behalf of Davy Knapp.

NEW AUCTION STARTING AT NOON ON WEDNESDAY 2/7/07!
For those of you who were outbid or missed the auction all together, I've decided to add one more mentoring session to my now intensely busy WPPI schedule. The auction will start tomorrow at noon.

Time Keeps on Slipin' Slipin' Slipin'... Into the Future

Wasn't it just yesterday I told my new neighbor I'd stop by to play ping pong with him this week? Wait, no way! It couldn't have been on Sunday, almost FIVE days ago! How does time go by so quickly? It's a strange thing; the faster I move in my race against time, the faster those evil clock hands turn! It frustrates me when I think about how time keeps on ticking and there's nothing I can do about it. What scares me most is that if I keep up this pace trying to outrun time, and time keeps beating me more and more severely... I'm going to be eighty years old by the end of next week!

That saying keeps popping into my head "Life is what happens when you're busy making other plans". I have all these big plans and they keep distracting me from the beautiful life that is sitting right in front of me. I constantly have to remind myself that Aidan is only 2 years old for another couple of months. Then he'll be 3 and then 5 and then 16! I was putting him to bed last night and he told me to lay on the floor. I did. He then proceeded to pull all of his blankets out of his crib and lay them over me. He brought me his favorite stuffed animals "Baby Giraffe" and "Bitsy Giraffe" and tucked them under the blankets with me. He dimmed the lights, turned on the little thing that makes ocean wave sounds, kissed me on the cheek and said, "shhhhh... go night-night Daddy." It was so cute! He was totally reversing the roles on me :)

It's funny how when we're little, we want to be grown up and when we're grown up, we wish life could be simple again.

My new baby Logan is barely 3 weeks old and is starting to react to us and stare back with funny expressions. This stage will only last a couple more weeks before he's on to something else. Life is so short. It's too short to make so many plans. I want to live each day with my wife and kids like it's my last. Even if I fail miserably at my business because I've spent too much time with my family, at least I didn't fail with my family spending too much time with my business.

I think there is only one way to beat the clock: It's to spend time on the important things.

Steve Miller's got an opinion on this. Read the lyrics

Ali Edwards - The Oprah of Scrapbooking

I received this message today from a photographer:

"hi mike! just so you know, you've been introduced to the Scrapbooking world by the goddess of all things scrapbooks, Ali Edwards. might as well be Oprah endorsing you!"

I looked into it and WOW! She was right! Just google 'Ali Edwards' and see how many links come up. I think she may be more popular than Oprah :) No wonder my blog hits tripled today!
