A Piece of History
The most beautiful time piece in the world is also a piece of history. And now, it's on my wrist! The Luminor Panerai 1950 Limited Edition is breathtaking to say the least. Once I laid eyes on it, I knew I had to have it. Want one for yourself? Good luck finding someone who will give up theirs! It took a small miracle for me to locate this one (thanks Davie!), and now I wouldn't sell it for a million dollars. A special shout out to my good friend Ben "the great wall" Lee, who at the risk of losing a friendship with my wife, introduced me to my first Panerai in 2005. Don't be jealous Uncleray... you'll get to see it close up in Toronto next month and again in Miami at our workshop :)Friday, July 20, 2007

Naomi Noelle

Here's a shot I did for my close friends Josh and Mindie of their brand new little girl Naomi. What a blessing it is to be able to capture life at such a young age! One of the perks of shooting weddings is the calls I get for baby sessions from my wedding clients. I've been telling my brides that the first session is free if its within one year of the wedding :)
This images was taken with my D2Xs and 50mm 1.4. It was taken in manual mode, jpeg large fine, f1.4 1/80 sec, 1600 iso, in camera b+w with contrast boost. I draped a black blanket over their kitchen table and used the available light coming from a window slightly off center from behind me. I did a slight curves adjustment in Photoshop to bring up the exposure about 1/2 stop and add a bit more contrast. I love shooting with the D2x in higher iso's because the grain pattern reminds me of shooting with Kodak TMZ 3200 film pushed a couple of stops. I love a bit of texture in my black and whites.

Tiny Decisions Add Up!
We all try to make good decisions, especially when the decisions are big ones. The problem is that most of us don't pay enough attention to the tiny ones!
Every day we make at least a thousand tiny decisions. Whether we realize it or not, those decisions add up to define who we are. I believe that if you can make more good decisions than bad for any extended period, then you will see big positive changes in your life.
Here are some tips on becoming a better decision maker:
1. Start each day with 20 minutes (or more) of quiet time. Get alone with God and ask Him for direction.
2. Ask yourself who you want to be as a person, mom, dad, husband, wife, boss, employee, friend, professional. Start making decisions that back up who you want to be.
2. Listen to your conscience; it will keep you on track if you allow it to.
3. Make a list of non-negotiables (things you do each day without exception!)
4. Keep a mental tally of your good vs. bad decisions and make sure the good side is always winning!
Remember, at any given moment you can start fresh and decide to start making better decisions!
Today is your day to become the person you want to be!

Through Their Eyes Africa

I was called out on a shoot tonight for NILMDTS so I'm a bit behind on this post. I hope some of you read it before it's too late and the Blogathon ends. There is an awesome project in the works that we can all be a part of. It's called Through Their Eyes Africa and it's such a great thing! I can't get into details right now because I have an early meeting and it's getting late, but you can find out more about it by visiting the website and joining in on the Blogathon. Check it out!

Toms Shoes - An Inspiration for Everyone!

Today was like any other day, except when I woke up this morning, I knew it was going to be different. I had a meeting scheduled with Blake Mycowski, owner and founder of TOMS shoes.
Blake was introduced to me by Ashley McCue, a very cool photographer who attended my last workshop here in Newport Beach. She came up to me during a break in class and told me that she knew someone I had to meet. She said she has a gift of introducing people who really should know each other. I went along with the idea because Ashley is the kind of person you just trust. You can just tell that she knows what she's doing and she's so passionate. After meeting Blake, I completely agree that she has a gift.
Blake is a rockstar when it comes to designing shoes. He's also pretty much a genius at running a business with a vision to help people in need. . He's totally inspired me to find new ways to bless others and build charity into my business to the point that it's more a foundation for my business than just something I do in my free time.
My #1 goal in life is to serve God by serving others. I want to base everything I do on this including my photography business. Work is so much more meaningful when you do it in love and for a purpose.
Thanks to Ashley and Blake, I will be thinking and praying for a new mission statement. Your thoughts are appreciated!
In the meantime, watch this video and be inspired!
